Stories of Change
Meet Jimbo
This is the story at the heart of everything we do. One girl. One cup. Complete change.
When we remove the barriers menstruation creates, girls don't just stay in school, they thrive.
How We Create Change
By breaking down barriers to menstrual health, we unlock girls’ rights to full and dignified lives of their own choosing.
The Numbers Behind the Stories
of Liberian girls using the cup feel more confident
of girls no longer miss school or activities
report feeling confident, free, happy and in control
Four Years of Dignity
“They gave me the flowcup in 2020 and I’ve been using it for four years. I’ve got experience, it is very good. Before, my mother couldn’t always afford to pay my school fees or buy me sanitary pads. Now, we girls keep ourselves in school because of the flowcups. I’m comfortable with it, I’m really comfortable. God bless you.”
"Thank you for the support, my two girls are using it and I don't have to worry about buying their pads every month. Thank you!"
Jackie a Parent
"With my Flowcup now, I can be very comfortable during my period and no longer miss school and other activities. This cup is very good because I do not have to worry about my period. Like before I used to be embarrassed and even stayed away from school and regular activities during my period."
Agnes Liburd - Liberia
"This experience makes me feel so much for my siblings because they did not have the same chance I got. When I received the flow cup, I was also taught how to use it. At first I was worried about the difficulty inserting. Now I am used to it and feel comfortable using it. This has saved my parents and I have been able to save some money to assist my 5 other sisters in accessing pads."
Namukabirye Halima, Kakira High School - Uganda
"The Flowcup given to my daughter helped reduce the family budget, allowing me to cater for other requirements like scholastic materials."
Kyazike Janet, mother to Nabirye Marion
"My name is Joy Dorcus Kampi, I am 17 years old. I am using a flowcup with passion because my past experience before the cup was not good. I used to use clothes and disposable pads that used to burn, produce a bad smell, and were very expensive. I find the flowcup is comfortable and does not burn me. Because of the flowcup, my mother has been able to save some money for other things like food."
Joy Dorcus Kampi - Uganda
"I used to find difficulties accessing pads. This pushed me to use rags or clothes sometimes, these came with many challenges like infections which were caused by using damp clothes. Thanks to the Cova project for loving a girl child, the flowcup does not burn, is easy to use, and has enabled my family to save money for other household necessities."
Student - Uganda Partner school
"The Flowcup has helped me stay comfortable at school just like other girls. I encourage Irise and Cova to continue supporting girls with flowcups."
Female student, Kakira High School - Uganda
"I am very happy to have this flowcup because it has relieved a burden off me as a female referee. Before I had problems managing my period in my field of work. It was embarrassing running around the field when I received my period, but with this flowcup, I am fearless doing my job."
Sarah Manston - Female referee, Liberian Football Association
"It has changed my whole life experience. I used my old nickers once in a while and old pieces of cloth that used to burn and I would get wounds. This is because I could not afford other safe options. Irise and Cova changed my whole story with a flowcup. It is good, light, and does not burn. Irise and Cova should continue supporting us so that girls stop dropping out of school."
Student - Uganda, Irise East Africa partnership

Teachers, district inspectors, and government officials share what they're witnessing on the ground.
"I'm passionate about the flowcup. We often have girls dropping out of school before parents can't afford to buy pads. Our girls today are able to stay in school and be confident. I would like to appreciate The Cova Project for the job well done in our schools."
Mr Kisambira
District Inspector of Schools, Jinja
"Girls' performance has been significantly improved. Last year we had the best performance presented by girl students in the history of this school. And I want to tell you that we now have more girls in the dormitory than boys! You have created stability."
Peter
Head Teacher, Pilkington College
"As a teacher, a lot has changed in the lives of our girls as a result of menstrual flowcup distribution done in our school. We have a challenge of parents not having funds to support girls with pads and since the girls accessed the flow cups, they have been reporting positive changes including being more confident during their periods and demonstrating higher levels of concentration in class compared to before."

Teacher, Kakira High School
